2014Coimbra Bathed In Sunset Gold
I took these photos in Coimbra two weeks ago, around the courtyard outside the Museu Nacional Machado de Castro. I didn’t actually visit the museum, because the light was just too good to go indoors both times I went by. This was also one of those situations when two or three photos seemed inadequate to capture the magic of light and shadows. This is a selection, you’ll find more in the Coimbra album.

Gorgeous gorgeous photos! <3 I visited Coimbra at noon so the light wasn't as good 🙁 Still, it's a beautiful town!

Thanks Vlad! I got lucky with good light, but I think that has more to do with spending more time in Coimbra and having less of an itinerary… more opportunities. I also have the distinct advantage of living only an hour away.

Wow, amazing! I can totally understand why you didn’t want to go inside and miss this light. I love this time of day for taking pictures, or just appreciating the light. I don’t often comment on your site, but I do very often read your posts and see your beautiful pictures – it’s definitely making me want to spend more time in Portugal. I used to live in Extremadura in Spain, very close the boarder, but I still only visited Lisbon in that time. I think I would really enjoy the northern parts of Portugal, like Coimbra and Porto.

Thanks Sam! Ditto for me: I read your posts from time to time but unless I have a comment burning a hole in my virtual pocket I tend to be scarce with leaving them in the comment box. I’m obviously bullish about Portugal, but I like to think my feelings about the country are best expressed in pictures rather than words. The more I discover here, the more I realize it’s a true gem in this little corner of Europe, with plenty to offer to those who give it more than a passing glance. It’s not very big but there is so much to see here!
