2005Food for the Senses
Bananas can be sensuous.
Think fingers.
Think skin.
Think smooth.
Think curves.
Baby romas! Luscious and juicy!*
I love the way the vines look like boney fingers.
I’m a food lover, I’ll admit it. David lost me in Wegman’s last night — I was off in a corner of the store, sniffing the goat cheese.
(I don’t like to refrigerate produce, the chill kills the flavour. So, I photographed the fruit and veg late last night before it ripened too much. Also, the heat from the lights I use speed up the ripening process, so I have to do it right away.)
* For some like David and Socar, this also spells Heartburn City

amazing.. truly amazing..

For the shots with the bananas, I had to be creative. I used a print frame that had a blue backing on it, and tried to make the depth of field as shallow as possible so the wire that it hangs on isn’t visible. In the shot with the tomatoes, I used a white poster board that is actually an old calendar from David’s workplace, turned over.
We don’t have a studio at home, I just use things around the house. David bought me a couple of cheap $6 shop lights from the hardware store that have spring clamps, and I try to light up this dark house as best as I can with whatever ambient lighting I can get a hold of (flashlights, even).

Hey Gail! How do you do the backgrounds for photos like those? The contrast is beautiful!

I already have learned more. 😉 Which is now getting him to learn his new one, to show me up! 🙂

Thanks Lindsey!
Karl’s old Canon is still a pretty good camera! I’m sure you’ll learn more about it than he ever did! Haha!
Lindsey
Well you are good with the flashlights!! 🙂 I wish you were online more, so I could learn more tricks. Karl gave me his old Canon and I am having soooo much fun with all of the new modes that it has!!
Socar
The tomato picture is absolutely amazing. They look good enough to pluck out of the screen and eat. Except, of course, they WOULD give me heartburn. How can something so delicious be so cruel?
